2009 End of the Year Awards

Another year has come and almost gone. Tomorrow is New Year’s Eve, the last day of 2009, so I would like to take a quick look back and pass out some awards to some of the great people and cornholers that I have been blessed to meet over the year of 2009. From Las Vegas, Hooters on Dixie, Shooters, VFW #5421, Bluegrass Balloon Festival, St. Stephen Gymnasium to Paroquet Springs Conference Center, I had a great time and watched some great cornhole action in 2009. I also would like to give a big Thank You to all you guys and gals that made 2009 such a great year! I can only hope that 2010 can be even better for us all. (The following awards were based on overall performance and participation in ACO Louisville events only. Various players and spectators contributed to determining these winners. The awards listed below are for the sole purpose of recognizing these individuals for their accomplishments in 2009 and is not intended to be used in any other way.)

Most Outstanding Player of 2009
Dale Smith
Coming in second in a very, very close decision was Noel True. Finishing third in the voting was Matt Guy... Dale played in more ACO Louisville events, which gave him just a slight edge over Noel and Matt.

Most Improved Player of 2009
Kyle Treadway
This was by far the most difficult category to pick a winner in by far. The year saw so many players improve their game that it is truly amazing to see how these guys are playing now compared to WinterBlast I in January 2009. The list of players is too long to even mention but we expect nothing but to see even more players improve their games in 2010.

“Rising Star” Award of 2009
Derek King
Derek has been given the nickname Derek “The Next” King and most people would agree that this kid (12yrs old) is on the right path.

Most Dedicated Player(s) of 2009
David Rogers
Mike Payne
Well, this award was by far the easiest of them all. The truth is in the numbers – David Rogers did not miss one ACO Louisville event the entire year. Period. Dave was also up for most improved and actually came in second in that category. Mike Payne missed only one event all year and believe me hated to miss that one. These guys have shown what dedication is all about and that is why you have heard them referred to at so many of our events simply as, “The Living Legends”

Outstanding Performance in a Single Event
Noel True
IceHole Classic Top Gun Singles Champion on 2/28/2009
Noel simply dominated the Top Gun Singles division with focus and precision throughout the entire day.

Best “Airmailer” of 2009
Randy Atha
Randy won this award based on his performance at “Cornhole Mania”, where Randy and Rick Taylor won the doubles part of the event. Randy put on a show in the doubles finals with airmail after airmail.

Fan Favorite of 2009
Chris “Buster” Benningfield
Definitely a fan favorite and announcer favorite as well. You may have heard this before “Chris ‘Busteeeeeeeeeeer’ Benningfield”

Top Doubles Teams of 2009
Charles True and Noel True
Derek King and Kyle Treadway
Dale Smith and Paul Gunter
Doug Darnell and Steve Richardson
Keith Blair and Stuart Baird
Jack Stagge and Darrin Hill
Mark Rice and Mike Rice
Matt Guy and Bret Guy
Tony Hankins and Mike Alvey
Kevin Pinkerton and David Shoemaker
Chad Newman and Chris Benningfield
Rick Taylor and Randy Atha
There were so many good teams and various combinations throughout the year that it was tough to narrow down the list. Some players teamed with several players throughout the year and could have been put in a couple of times so we focused on either the best team or the number of tournaments that specific team participated in.
